I have owned my G4 Powerbook since 2004 and was just trying to open up Garage Band so my 12 year old can move between my computer and her own with song files. As I did it, I got a message saying "EVE directory not found". I have no idea what happened to it but I would really like to figure out how to get GB up and running without having to install a brand new version of iLife. My OSX DVD is in a box somewhere but I am not sure if my old version of GB is there or not. Hmmm..... I can't find any resources for new drivers or whatnot either. Any ideas?

mortalengines,
What exactly were you doing to your powerbook before you got this error? Were you deleting files? or Preferences? Have you attempted to create a new user and launch GB while logged in under that user? I have searched all my machines with different iterations of GB installed and I cannot locate an EVE directory. Might be a plug in resource or something similar. I found some references to an EVE directory online, but it looks like it relates to a PC Game portal. Sorry not much help. Post some more details please. peace -------------------- |

I am as lost as you in this matter....if I deleted something I wasn't aware of it. I DID pull it out of my toolbar (years ago) but I don't think that would have made a difference. I will try to create a new user and see how that goes. Thanks! I had also looked the EVE directory and hit a wall......Not sure what my OS is talking about but it freezes at the message and I have to force quit GB when it happens.

Guys, I just figured it out. I was going thru my Plug ins Directory in Ableton and ran across an old Dash Signature EVE demo that I had downloaded and a light bulb went off. It never worked that well in Ableton (a little CPU hungry and I have enough soft synths already) and I kind of forgot about it. Well I don't know if it was a result of not purchasing the upgrade or what but as soon as deleted it from my Components folder GB loaded without a hitch. Funny, eh?

mortalengines,
Awesome. Good to know you don't have to reinstall everything. Have fun making music instead of troubleshooting! peace. -------------------- |

You just might be right i notice that many apps will not indicate or ost what your computer needs in order to continue to load some apps ..but like you said i have had the same thing happen to me cpu and just memory lacked on our computers will cause the problem..usic apps take up much cpu's and memory.
Itrashed all the old garage band stuff by typing into the finder garage band and taking all and putting it in the trash pref files as well important..and make sure i have plenty of memory and reinstall the garageband app. should work fine thank you and happy new yr |
