I own a powerbook g4 and have recently downloaded some dj mixing software like dj1800, obelisk and tactile. However I have not been able to make a single mix as I'm not sure how to plug my headphones in alongside my speakers which use the headphone/line out socket. The other socket seems to be intended for speakers (it has a picture of a circle with two triangles coming out of it!?) but when i plug them into it the sound continues to come out of the built in ones.
Do I need a new driver so the other socket will recognise my speakers? Or perhaps a splitter so i can plug headphones and speakers into the same socket? Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers DAN |

That's a good question, I suggest that you read the manual for your speakers to determine the operation. I have many talents but being Physic is NOT one of them.

the cirlce with the triangles is your line-in plug. the one with the headphones is your line-out.

PowerBook has only one audio out so to be able to do proper DJ mixing you need a separate audio-interface + a mixing program that's able to route the cue signal to another output.
If you use a splitter in the headphones-out you just end up hearing the same signal in the speakers and headphones. |

I would reccomend a 1/8 stero jack to rca's cable (get it at an electronics store). run this from your audio out of computer into a channel of a mixing desk, (say a cheap beringer 6 channel desk or even a 2 ch dj desk with crossfaders) then run your monitors out of the main outs of desk. This way you can plug headphones into desk and control the monitors as well.
I sure hope your problems get simpler. This is real basic stuff here. |
