A couple of weeks ago, I got a US-224 on loan from Tascam and they e-mailed me an OS X driver to use with it. It worked beautifully, so I could record audio in Melodyne, Bias Peak LE, Sound Studio etc in OS X. Keep an eye on the Tascam website if you've got a 224!

damann, you mean the HDSP alpha driver? Not even beta yet, I don´t know, I´m hardly blown away. Processor usage in Live is extremely high, according to the RME usenet group neither Reason or Spark work with it yet, etc. Not to mention that on my Powerbook it doesn´t even recognize the Multiface everytime I start up. Usually I need to boot into OS9, then into OSX before it works. I´m glad they decided to share their internal alpha version though. Actual work isn´t really possible yet, though (especially because my current setup doesn´t work without Totalmix).

Also, don't forget the TASCAM US-428 - I've been using this recently with Ableton Live and Reason under 10.1.5 with considerable success (MIDI and audio and control). It also seems to work well with Bias stuff, but i am not yet convinced enough to start using Deck. |

This thread is for RME, not Tascam or whatever 3 electronic components in a box you like best. If the Tascam could follow the thread I created for them. I fall here we talk about different drivers in beta in the same thread it's going to be a nightmare to follow. BTW finding this kind of mess when you wake up is not exactly exhilarating it's here: http://www.macmusic.org/agora/forums/index...st=0#entry10770 -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

Ok, back to the topic
I´m sorry to say it, but the RME drivers as of now are totally unusable for musicians (rme says so themselves in their newsgroup). Basically you can play back audio in iTunes, Live and Peak, but that´s it. You can see your inputs, but you cannot record anything at all yet. Plus, my multiface totally freaks out when my adat and s/pdif devices are turned on. It´s just a developer release though, I´m really looking forward to TotalMix on OSX (hey, that rhymes!) |

Filarion wrote: "I´m really looking forward to TotalMix on OSX (hey, that rhymes!)" My apologies if I've got this wrong, but do you pronounce it OS Ex? Don't ever let Apple hear you say that! I was at an OS X (TEN!) Roadshow a few months ago and saw one guy get a VERY frosty look from the Apple guy for referring to it as OS Ex!

Hehe, I usually pronounce it OS-Ex when speaking english, yeah, but I know about Apple´s preferred pronounciation. When speaking german I say OS 10 as well. But OS Ten just doesn´t flow easy enough

for anyone wondering what's up with the RME drivers:
the drivers for the Hammerfall DSP systems are at beta5 now - basically everything audio works without a hitch (Reason 2 and Spark 2.5 don't work yet, but will with their next updates). At 64 sample latency in Logic 5.4 I get great performance with the Multiface on my PB800. For anyone thinking about getting a MOTU 828, consider the RME cards - having used both RME clearly is the better alternative imo. |
