I have just got my first laptop, a Powerbook 3400, and I am struggling to set up a serial MIDI connection to drive a Yamaha MU10 sound module. My operating system is OS9.1, but the discs are actually for an imac, and I have installed and set up OMS, and have bought a copy of Qmidi which works fine with the internal sounds, but I cant get it to communicate via the serial port. I think I've missed something vital in the powerbooks serial setup. I am experienced with PC MIDI setups, and have hopefully covered the obvious pitfalls, but I think my inexperience with Mac systems is the problem. Any help or suggestions gratefully received. Thank you

Does it show in OMS or not? If not, remove completely OMS, and reinstall it from scratch. when I say totally, it's OMS, prefs, and setup files and all. Something went wrong, got to start clean.

OMS is very very very old, not supported long before OS 9 came out, and it has some behaviour problems…

Some are cured by a complete uninstal/reinstall of OMS. Some by doing so for the whole MIDI lot (OMS, drivers, sequencer), it's more current for MIDI over USB problems.
