hello all,

I was just wondering who might be the responsible party for trying to get a freemidi compatible usb driver for the midisport 8x8 writen. I'm aware that I can use the OMS->FreeMidi setup but think that it's a bit daft. I'd like to have FreeMidi as my only midisystem b/c I'm using DigitalPerformer, b/c further developement on OMS has been stopped, and the process for making patch files for OMS that will show up in DP through FreeMidi is a total pain (not to mention not 100% reliable).

I don't know who I should start trying to contact. I've tried contacting both M-Audio and MOTU but received no response from either. I just wanted to know if there were any plans to develope anything to remedy the short coming. I'd even write the thing myself if I could get the specs for midisport, freemidi, and mac usb API.

anyone have any suggests or comments?
take care,
-Dr1f7@

OMS is dead for six years… FreeMIDI died with OS 9 and don't count on MOTU now to do something. M-Audio is certainly much more interested in OS X too…

OS 9 development is certainly no more on the shedule, but can you access the M-Audio data you need to eventually code a driver… I do'nt know sad.gif

Now , if there's enough interest maybe it'll raise some kindness from M-audio on this (not to develop the thing, but at least to provide some input to help out).

Oi! Horrible news but but excellent points... I totally overlooked the fact that the OS I'm whinin' about is now obsolete as far as the developement goes... ARGH!! like workin' with an Atari ST. sad.gif

i was lookin' into coding one. turns out it will be a bigger pain in the butt then i'd original planned. i didn't look deep but on the face of it, FreeMidi and USB is the first hurdle. without the source for freemidi it would, well, an ugly hack. which would probably be less stable than the current solution. i bet, however, that the experience would be great if i was lookin' for a job coding with motu or maudio hehe smile.gif.

might be time to step to the next level... guess i'll buy a newer machine and go OSX with it.

anyone had any problems with non-motu usb midi interfaces and dp4.x?

thanks a mil,
keep on keepin' on!
