I'm just getting started looking around for Macs and would like some advice. Money is a bit of an object so the budget is small. In anyones opinion, would a G4 400mhz Powermac be any good for using Cubase and Reason?

Many thanks

If you use a 3/4 year-old version of cubase the G4 could be alright, but I suppose you want the same version as on your course and well you've read what's been said.....

Have you thought of all the other things you will probably need? My nearfield monitors cost more than the computer. A couple of good mics cost as much as a bottom end emac, and if you have good mics that means a D/A sound interface with preamps and phantom power. Ah! If you record with mics you want a computer that's quiet - a laptop.

What about the midi interface and a nice 5 octave synth too?

And... Oops wink.gif Better not put you off.

When choosing a computer you should always get the most appropriate for your needs after choosing the app(s) that are the most appropriate.

When you make the list you might find you don't have to stick with cubase after the course.

Are your teachers on PCs?
