Hi all,

I'm looking for a software wireless midi solution to enable Mackie control universal to hook up to LogicPro/828mkII over wireless ethernet. The setup would look as follows:

MackieControl+OldPowerbook>.....Midi over Airport.....>NewPowerbook+Logic+828mkII

This would enable engineering of live events, all processing/mixing performed by the NewPowerbook on stage. Only midi information would be sent between the two macs. The absolute timing of the midi would not be critical, my bottom line is that ALL midi events are transmitted/received and in the correct order.

I have tried iMIDI, which although seems quite responsive when playing the odd note from a keyboard, doesn't get all data thru when controller data is sent. I was under the impression that TCP/IP ensures that all packets sent are received, etc?

I've seen the Kenton device, but it's at £399 here in the uk. I was hoping for a cheaper software solution.

Anybody come across other possible solutions?

Cheers,
Bryan

OK, done some more research, and come across this.

This is being adopted as IEEE standard. I've had it runnung successfully, and am totally impressed with performance. All data is getting thru, and in the right order. Its pretty playable even for note data-latency about 20ms.

This is the way forward...

And its free, open source!
