Hi all!
I'm a keyboardist/songwriter/producer who's been in the PC world all my life, and during the last 3 years I've been using Emagic Logic. For obvious reasons, I guess I have to change to Mac in order to keep working in my beloved Logic, and I'm also interested in changing to Mac due to other reasons. I feel like the G5:s are a little bit out of my range moneywise... So which is the second best option? Used G4? iMac? eMac? Since the two latter can't be moved from their monitors, another important question: How loud/quiet are the iMacs and the eMacs? The price for a 1,25 GHz eMac with 1Gb RAM and an 80 Gb Hard Drive is not high at all... Is that a good solution? Regards, Henrik Hansson Malmo, Sweden. |

I recently bought a 17" 1.25ghz iMac, and here are my thoughts:
* Used G4 might be a good choice if you have the space, but it's still more expensive end-to-end than an all-in-one unit like eMac or iMac, since you still have to get a monitor. Nice thing here is expansion space, but most stuff can be hand via USB these days. * eMac vs. iMac: most obvious difference is the screen. Don't underestimate the convenience of having a swivel-screen in your studio (iMac); plus, they're easier on the eyes and consume less power My iMac barely emits more than a whisper 80% of the time. The other 20%, the fan kicks in which sounds like a mini jet engine starting up, but it's still no worse than the noisy PC I had before it, which hummed non-stop. -------------------- iMac G4 1.25ghz 512, iBook G3 600mhz 384, Logic Pro 6, Live 3, Edirol PCR-50.
