I want to know if anyone has had any luck getting PT 6.4 to show the patch names for their keyboard/midi controller
. I am using a Roalnd XP-80 keyboard and I cannot get PT to show any of the patch names. Each time I try and change the patch list I get numbers and it says no patch list selected. If anyone has any solutions I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks a million... |

hi
-how are you trying to change them, adding new .midnam files? I figured out how to convert old patchlists from freemidi/OMS to the midnam format and get PT to read them (or build new ones), but I dont remember what to do right now. If you want I can figure it out again because I need to do it sometime for my Nanosynth user bank. I did it before, but then I accidentally deleted the file during an uninstall of Pro Tools. If I remember right, the midnam files that PT reads must be called the exact name of the device and use the same header (i think thats what it is called) info in the XML file as all the rest of them in the folder. Its sorta stupid, I agree, but it can be done. Cherrypicker is cool software for this stuff, though patchlists need the above tinkering in textedit before use in PT. ALso Digi has a page somewhere about editing midnams by hand in a text editor. -------------------- -Arvid •• Squish the Squid Productions, Modest Machine

Hi Jazzvox
did you figure out how to resolve this problem? I'm having the same problem, after I do what the manual says to do I just have a "MIDIServer patch file, bank, or mode information not available for this MIDI Instrument" message, even when all my MIDI Instruments are in Digidesign's Midi Patch list. thanks for the help! |

I also have this problem. I have exhausted the support materials at the website and through searches on the internet.
I have verified that the device name in the midnam file matches the device name in the AMS setup. In the midanm file I have tried deleting the Author tag and/or the device mode tag. I have trashed the preferences and still get the same error: "MIDIserver etc..." Man, getting this to work shouldn't take this long! Thanks in advance for any help. Matthew |

It goes like this...
First, make sure you have added your MIDI device, and connected it to your MIDI interface, in the "Audio MIDI Setup" .app . When you add the device, make sure to define the Manufacturer and Model (hopefully your synth or module shows in there) and drag the In/Out connections to the icon for your MIDI interface. Make sure the midnam file is located in: /Library/Audio/MIDI Patch Names/Digidesign/[manufaturer name ]/ (if you have a popular device, chances are it will already be there) Now, when you create a new MIDI track in ProTools LE, your device will show up as a choice in the MIDI output section of the track. Select that device for your output of the track, now when you click the program change button on the bottom of the MIDI track... Viola! There are your patch names, banks and programs, nice. You can now change instruments in your sound module from PTLE. I use this w/ my Groovebox and it works ace. ... Now if someone could just tell Me, the same thing for Logic Express. Cheers, TD -------------------- |
