What is the least expensive 24-bit audio interface? The Tascam 122 for around $185? Or is there something else out there?

The U24 from egosys is pretty inexpensive:

I have heard that it is pretty decent, too, but I haven´t got any direct experience with it or with its drivers. Maybe someone else on this forum has?

I tried the 122 and I liked it. Pretty good sound for such a small device. In fact, I wrote a big ol' review of it for MacMusic - search it out in a forum post from a few months ago.
