I need a computer for audio recording and I'm leaning towards a Mac, but I keep hearing all these things about software not running in OS X or 9.1. All new Macs come with OS X and 9.1, will I be able to run Logic audio/Cubase with this? I have a budget of about $2500(for computer ,with educational discount, and soundcard), what would you recomend(I don't need more than 2 inputs, but I do need midi)? Thanks in advance

Absolutley, the Mac is the only way to go. Give the software people a chance to catch up on developing for OS 9.1 and 10. You won't be sorry..You will be crative.

i use a powerPC 7500 upgraded with G3 card with protools as the software, convert
to MP3 files and upload to my web site, http://www.milagromac.com (check my links if you like) price range around $650.00 with the G3/30mhz card running 9.1 or 8.6 version. latter you can buy the protools card, you do not need it to do the recording though, if you just want to buy the PowerPC 7500 no G3 card then price is round $495.00, we accept m/c visa amex. http://www.milagromac.com http://www.macpart.com art fernandez |

tis true that OS X will not run hardly any music apps right now (not even in classic mode) but you can always boot machine in 9.1 and then run audio apps... I am not sure what apps will and won't run in 9.1 but I run ProTools LE 5.1 on OS 9..1 with no probs.

I haven't heard of compatibility problems with any of the major software apps (Logic, Cubase, Performer, ProTools, etc.) & OS 9.1, and most of these will support OS X by the end of the year (if you believe what you read). If you only need 2 inputs, and don't need studio quality A/D conversion, the $35 iMic will work just fine ( no sound card needed). A basic USB/MIDI interface runs aboutt $60.
I just got one of the new iBooks & the MOTU 828 firewire interface (18 channels in & out) with AudioDesk recording software (Digital Performer without the MIDI) The whole set-up cost me less than $2300. |
