I realize now that I should have been a little more clear when initially posting. What I was specifically looking for was something efficient for loop generation, not for audio sequencing. I think the one thing that really draws me to Fruity Loops is the insane amount of samples that are packaged along with it. Personally, I don't really have the time to create all of my own samples which seems to be necessary with something like Cubase.
I appreciate your help, and will check out Ableton Live, but if anyone else has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Reason would be your best bet for doing your loop based music production. Samplers , synths - designed by (clavia).Drum machine with sequence control more elaborate than Fruity loops. All the patterns that you create can be exported as loops individually or as multi parts. A very stable program that is excellent for exporting your own loops
