I am completely new to all of this. I just got a MacBook Pro and a M-Audio Firewire 1814 interface. I have my input and outputs on the System Preferences>sound screen set to the Firewire 1814 but when I open Garage Band, it only records via the built in mic. How do I select the interface within Garage Band? Also, can I monitor what's being played through the 1814 via the built-in speakers on my MacBook Pro?
Thanks!

Great, thanks! I think I've got it all set now. Is there a way for me to use my built-in speakers to listen to what's being put through the 1814?

QUOTE (deaconblue @ Thu 13 Jul 2006, 10:19) Drummer519,
You should be able to select the Internal Line Out option in the Sound pref pane in System preferences so that your input is hte 1814 and the output is Built-In Audio. You should also verify that your Garage Band output is set to Built-In Audio as it may override the System Preferences settings.
peace Hmmm, I didn't even think about how the GB outpu might be overriding the Sys Preferences. I'll have to check that. I wish I didn't have to power downn every time I wanted to turn the 1814 on or off. Is it okay to keep it on or will that shorten the life-span?
