I am having tech hell trying to get my Focusrite Saffire to function properly. Being a tech newbie doesnt help, but this is the hardest application Ive ever encountered. In a nutshell,Im getting no signal at all out of the headphones, and cubase le (bundled with Saffire) refuses to record any midi dats, although it apperas that the devices recognise each other. Ive downloaded the newest drivers, which at least resulted in the saffire screen being (slightly) less greyed out. This is driving me crazy. Am I missing something obvious? Any feedback would be gratefully received.
ps I am able to record midi through the Saffire on garageband.

Regards, Phil

Hi Phil,

I presume you are talking about the Saffire Control software?

When it first starts up it does so in Soundcard Mode, you should be able to see that on the Saffire Control Panel, just change it to the other setting (I can't remember what it is but it should be obvious just look for the word soundcard and put it in the other mode).

Also try their Knowledge Base:

Sorry I'm a bit vague but I just sent my Saffire back and replaced it with a Firepod because of Phantom power problems.

...the other mode is 'Track Mode'.

Also is the Monitor Volume up on the unit itself as this will effect the headphone volume.

Thx for that Bluemover. Have made semi- progress in that I can now hear audio through headphones. Cubase le still not recording. Could be a cubase le issue. Wish they provided printed manuals rather than pdf s! Ill reserve judjment till I get thru to tech support, but so far, wouldnt describe the package as "newbie - friendly".

Thanks again. Phil

In Cubase, check your audio "preferences" (probably:Cubase/preferences/audio in the dropdown menu at the top left corner of the program) & make sure that Cubase knows to use the Sapphire for its input & ouput- then insert a track & "arm" it for recording. You should be able to get some signal through your program now. I don't use Cubase but I have used enough other DAWs to have been stuck right out of the starting gate.
