hi there, this is my first time on here so please be patient!
I'm running protools LE 6.4 with a digi 001 on OSX. I would love to update to 6.7 or 6.9. Is this possible? or what about 7.0. Also, if I go with an Mbox or 002, will my plug-ins from my current 001 set-up still work? And lastly, besides the 96k availablity of the 002, is there any great reason to buy a 002, or should i wait till the next thing comes around???
Thanks, Mher

The Digi 001 won't work with any version of Pro Tools past 6.4 I think. Your current plugins should be fine with a Digi 002 although you may need some plugin updates. Well, if you don't need the 96k you might be alright with the MBox unless you need the extra I/O in which case the Digi 002 is nice except for the price. I'm not exactly sure of all the specs of the Digi 001 but if you want to upgrade and you need the extra I/O I guess it's all about how much it's worth to you. I don't think there is going to be a really big next thing for a while as far as Digi interfaces go. Digi has the niche on their products set right where they want it since they have a captive audience so to speak. There are other options with Pro Tools M Powered and M Audio interfaces that are less expensive but the drawback is having to buy the software again and the annoying extra iLok you will have to use to run it. I would be willing to bet that the Digi 002 sounds better than the Digi 001 although I have never compared them myself. The Digi 002 is more of a plug and play thing with the firewire connection and you could even use it with a laptop for mobile recording or gigs. It's possible with the Digi 001 but with another device in the chain which can get annoying and defeats the purpose of mobility. I really like the fact that you can highlight a group of tracks by using shift click to highlight all the tracks in between instead of having to highlight one track at a time. There are also more tempo options in 6.9. It will probably be more software goodies you'll want to take advantage of than the actual hardware. Usually the software only changes slightly from one version to the next but I think PT 7 is going to have a lot of changes especially with MIDI and MIDI tracks. Again in the end I guess it really depends on how much you want to upgrade and/or whether your current system is satisfactory to you. If it isn't it's all about how much its worth to you to get upgraded.
