Hi, I've been seriously considering the new Kurzweil K2661 as a main keyboard for my fledgeling set up. Its abundant controller options would make it perfect for me, as my left hand is knackered after a stroke, and they're supposed to sound rather marvellous too, with all the K2600 optional extras including the orchestral set included as standard. However I'm concerned that the new 'smart media' means of transferring downloaded OS updates and sound library, or transferring the on board sequencer data to computer sequencer require *DOS compatibilty*. Does this mean one cant perform these tasks on a mac? If so then its a real shame as it looks like one hell of an instrument in every other respect.

I usually transfer sound to my Kurzweil K-2000 either through dos-formatted diskettes or dos/pc formatted Iomega zip-disks
(external Iomega SCSI 100Mb zip drive - this requires that the Kurz have the scsi-option installed - which I have) The mac reads dos diska jus handy. There are various smart card readers, scsi-cards, usb-flash memories and what not for the Mac. Cheers: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================

Cheers Dixiechicken, I have a USB smartmedia card reader for my digital camera which has a 128 Mb card, I wonder if that could be used for shunting Kurzweil data back and forth?. I've no idea how to format it with DOS though.
The scuzzi connector on previous kurzweil kseries synths has apparently disappeared from the K2661 in favour of the smartmedia slot. "The mac reads dos diska jus handy" I think you lapsed into Swedish here Did you mean macs read dos disks just dandy ? Thanks for the info, regards, John. |

Hi Jaysee!
QUOTE The mac reads dos diska jus handy" I think you lapsed into Swedish here smile.gif Did you mean macs read dos disks just dandy ? Ahh yes I've been known to do this on occasion. QUOTE I have a USB smartmedia card reader for my digital camera which has a 128 Mb card, I wonder if that could be used for shunting Kurzweil data back and forth?. Provided there is a driver for Mac OS-9 / Mac OS-X for your smart card reader, - (Mac OS-X may have some built into the OS itself) - I dont see why not. QUOTE I've no idea how to format it with DOS though. If the card pops up on your desktop like any other removable hard-drive, (zip-drive, diskett,) you should be able to just format it as pc-dos disk with Disktools in Mac OS-X Cheers: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================
