I have 2 Macs: one is 8600 and the other is G4.
I'm still on 9.2.2. I use DP 3.1.1, Reason and Live for most of the time.
My hardware includes MidiTimePiece 1 , 2408 mk3. on G4 , DSP factory on 8600.

I'd like to use my G4 and DP to control Reason and Live on 8600.

Timbuck2 won't work because most of music software don't get along with appleTalk.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would guess some kind of remote desktop system such as
http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/

It's expensive tho, I'm not sure if there are any open source versions out there.

Why not try using MIDI interfaces on both computers and sync to MIDI clock? Run the 8600, running Reason or Live in Slave mode. Set the G4 with DP in Master sync mode. When you hit "Play" on the master, the slave will trigger in sync with the master sequencer. You could then record the audio from the other computer into DP in sync with your song if you wanted.

You could also use the sequencer on the master to trigger sounds on the other computer by setting MIDI input channel in Reason on slave computer to same channel as the master.

This lets you utilize the power of the other computer by simply using it like any other instrument in the studio.

Hope that helps,
Cheers

TD

I think tdk3:s solution is your best bet, from a purely technical standpoint.

Because you wouldnt steal any horsepower from either computer -
trying to run some kind of virtual client/server/ or other extra processes
within any of the two boxes.
That could certainly cause you some problems on the 8600, the less powerful machine.
