How is everybody doing? Good I hope? Here we go:
Mac G3 running OS 9.1 (although I could install 8.5.1, OS 9, OS 9.2.1 or go up to 9.2.2 although the installer keeps telling me that it can't install over a localised version of Mac OS? - what the bananas does that mean?!) Lots of ram (but never enough!) Cubase 5.0 OMS 2.3.8 Midisport 2*2 (latest driver but still have older ones) Yamaha CS2X
Right, problem is that the CS2 X refuses to respond to midi. It will push out midi messages to cubase (the little red and green bars fly up and down) and OMS gives the usual "MIDI Received" annoying vocal when the keys and knobs on the CS2X are fiddled with.
Also the midisports lights flash when receiving/transmitting midi data, so I guess that the box is functioning properly. Still, the CS2X will not respond to midi messages sent by Cubase or through the "Test Studio" function in OMS (the bit where you click on the keyboards icon to get OMS to send random channels and notes to see if it will play).
The following is set up already:
CS2X - Receive channel (1 - it's in performance mode), Transmit Channel (1), Midi ID (all), local (on)
OMS - Keyboard is generic "?" symbol as OMS does not list it. It's device ID is set to "0"
Cubase - Don't know what else to look for apart from that the "Midi Thru" box is checked or something like that?
Basically I'm politely asking for advice to solve this problem, it's doing me nut in and Yamaha already told me how to do engineers tests to see if the keyboard is functioning (local off, plug midi cable running from keyboards midi "in" to midi "out", play a not and see if sound comes out) which apparently it is! The midi cables are also fine, checked em both in the midi out port on CS2X
What's the best way to set up using what system and what version of OMS?
Cheers geezers/geezeresses

QUOTE (alixir @ Jan 22 2004, 18:20) Mac G3 running OS 9.1 (although I could install 8.5.1, OS 9, OS 9.2.1 or go up to 9.2.2 although the installer keeps telling me that it can't install over a localised version of Mac OS? - what the bananas does that mean?!) Localized means run a non US version of MacOS, if you upgrade with an installer of another language, it may be rather… touchy in the end QUOTE Lots of ram (but never enough!) you bet! QUOTE Basically I'm politely asking for advice to solve this problem, it's doing me nut in and Yamaha already told me how to do engineers tests to see if the keyboard is functioning (local off, plug midi cable running from keyboards midi "in" to midi "out", play a not and see if sound comes out) which apparently it is! What's the best way to set up using what system and what version of OMS? As It seems not to be the interface, the keyboard or the cables, it must be usual tear maker of OMS… uninstall OMS and midisport drivers, get rid ot the preferences they may have around, rebuild your desktop, run Norton or techtools in case… Install OMS THEN the Midisport drivers… OMS is touchy, si when something strange occurs first clear the soft around OMS and reinstall. If it doesn't work first time, retry. Eventually with the old drivers in case. OMS 2.3.8 should do the trick usually.
