Hello there,

I updated to Panther and have got an iBook G3 600/DVD. When I want to record more than 2 tracks together (with an Motu 828 MK1), the system stops to record and gives an error that the cpu or the hd is too slow. sad.gif

May anyone give me an answer whether the problem would be solved if I would take an external Firewire drive? huh.gif

Thnx in advance
Maddy

It sounds like it probably is too much for the hard drive to do at once.

Laptops have hard drives that are usually too slow for multitrack recording. Recording to the startup drive is also not supported by many manufacturers.

I use Pro Tools, which says you should not record to your startup drive. The specifications for Pro Tools say that you must record to a drive that is not your startup drive and also has a speed of 7200RPM or more.

Panther also sucks up more system resources than previous versions of Mac OS, so this may account for why the problem didn't surface until you started using Panther.

My bet is that if you record to an external Firewire drive you will be able to record more tracks without getting that error.
