I this intermittent dilemma: When i open any music apps (Cubase, Reason Logic), I get this messsage: Printer Port in use by another application--Use anyways or Dont use.
Either way I go, the printer port cant be selected as a midi port and all the normal midi info is dumped onto the modem port.*(yuck) I am running Beige G3 300mhz OS9 desktop with obviously serial ports. I have OMS installed, same problem with or without it. I have tried everything I can think of short of a clean install.
Here are things I have tried: 1.Sometimes occassionally, (if the universe is willing), If i run Disk First Aid and select repair,( First Aid quits all running apps before repairing anything) whatever was grabbing the printer port stops. 2.run MAC OS Base from Extension Manager 3.deleted contents of preference folder 4. rebuilt desktop 5.yelled at it for sucking creative juice and wasting time problem solving.
I need help, Any suggestions, websites or magic genies would be so appreciated that i will bestow enlightenment upon you at your deathbed.:)Lengthy post but I am desperate and want to create some music with no glitches. Thanks

Ok Shot in the dark here, but do you have anything like desktop print monitor/ etc installed ? (by which i mean an icon or such on the desktop which will print anything you drop on it) being a flash git, i have seperate macs for studio and other stuff (g3 for office stuff and net, g4 for studio) and as such i manage to keep all seperate. but often ,in the days of poverty previous, i struggled with various things grabbing either the printer port or modem port,(also being a git, i use both for midi!) until i went thru all my software and system extensions and removed anyhting not absolutely essential to music! it sounds like you have a system printer thing going on, and by pulling out all your printer related extensions, see if it cures it. if so then put back only the minimum you can bet away with and see how you get on. I could be more specific if required, but i'd have to go back and look it all up. there are a few mac useful site that detail all the relevant system extensions and their uses!!! I cant recall the url unfortunately, but it was a logic users site of some sort. however i did download the lists of extensions. i'll gladly mail you the relevant bits if you need it, (hope its not a terrible breach of copyright or protocol) hope i've been of some use. max
