Looking to get a cheap condensor for vocals and acoustic guitar. Does anyone have anything good (or bad) to say about the Behringer B2? I'm currently using an SM-57. Will a lower end condensor like the B2 make a big difference in my recordings? Any other suggestions? Thanks...

Can't say for the guitar, but for my own voice (bass baryton) the NT1 was really great, much better than the other up to mid price models from Rode. I've secured a Studio project C1 (more expensive) which is really great (in his first incarnation, after, China as usual).
I don't know the behringer but having a try first with a bunch of similar mics can be instructive. And end of line of old NT1 come dirt cheap NOW Try them, really… Now a U47 can be usefull sometimes -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

have been using the B-2 for two years now; vocal(male and female),flute (jazz and classic),saxophone, accordion etc. It´s very suitable for my needs: recording into ProTools Free and Fostex VF 08. Kimmo

Kimmo,
I was considering the Fostex VF but was told there was no hope of interfacing with a Mac. How are you accomplishing this? Inquiring minds... :-) Bill -------------------- Bill

Mind that the NT1 has a noise floor a bit higher than the NT1-a its successor, anyway, i'd try before I buy !
Depending of your voice, your way of spitting in the mic, a sm57 may still be more apropriate but more seriously, the B2 may sound better or crappier than the Rode, or they can both be not the sound you want to hear. And don't forget a pop shield! -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

Hey,Bill
I never used VF 08 and Mac together in that way, but there is a SPdif out on VF ,which could be used.In my case I moved from Atari to VF and then to iMac, perhaps a logical development? |

Yep, The B2 will sound much better than your sm57. Its an affordable condenser mic. Ive used the B1 (wich is simmilar but only has a cardoid pattern and 1 diaphram) and the B2 pro. Big improvement on a dynamic mic. Thing is you need to run it on phantom power so you will need to buy a standalone mic pre or a small mixer that has a phantom power supply. The beringer UB1002 is good for that. The preamps are quiet but ive got a feeling that there not quite full spectrum.
That my 2 cents anyway. =) |
