I hate to sound old-fashioned, but what about a sheet music display? Also, there's quite a few decent synths/music apps for the iPhone that will be MUCH easier to use now.

Closed system? Not sure how long it's been since you've used an iPhone or iPod Touch, but they're not rejecting much lately, so who cares wether or not you download it from the developers site or through the app store?

Sounds good , however the idea is to have an flat discreet external wireless monitor as i use a macbookpro side of stage for running Cubase transport of Audio . ( play , stop , next marker , previous marker ) . Thanks for your input.

I was hoping the ipad could do the job.

On the app refusals, there's one popping out every now and then. I can understand it can be a job to review 140000 apps in 2 years, but a clear system for refusals would have avoided much hassle. The bad habit for Apple to block developers voicing (be it on the API issues or on refusals) doesn't make much sense, save for a bad image.

The system is closed yes, proprietary OS (not that I mind), and all apps coming from one source, with developers having to say yes to whatever Apple wants. There are reasons, but it's not a very friendly environment for developers in the end. And all the GNU/GPL world is out… Apple does this in the sake of security (and a captive market too but it's good to have in mind the limits it imposes.

all great points, and i'll just say it's a piece of gear that i'm eager to put through it's paces. i'm inclined to agree with Oliver Chessler's (at his own blog's) observation that ipad will be a great music tool- because the iphone/ipod touch is already a great music tool. the ipad has to be a step up for me if only in this one way... the larger form factor and larger display. i'm 50, and my eyes aren't happy with the graphics possible on the tiny screen. added to that the possibilities for finer control of gestural controls, and even if it's only as powerful as an iphone/ipod touch i'm thinking it'll sail.
it's first generation. i'll look for open systems, infrared beam controllers, third party development to come soon.

I, Not a fangirl - that said, I just might be one now.... the iPad has already changed the way I do my work - the iPad is here to stay!
I love my iPad. It has almost completely replaced my personal computer. For the things I do... Is is perfect! Much nicer than any CPU I have ever owned. All my other computers would do a lot of things I would never use it for, and do it painfully in the process (slow, buggy, etc.). When you get down to what you do most on you personal computer... the iPad does almost all of the things an average user needs, and with a much much nicer U/I. Easy of use, fast, and efficient. The other computer manufacturers could learn a thing or two from this, but even if they do... they will probably screw-up the one they come out with by adding all the crap back in again. Ugggggg!!!!

I am sticking with my iPad. I think other will do the same once they try it and realize it is the perfect personal computer :-)
