Hi,

I'm really trying to get an answer from anyone who is using a 2009 13" or 15" MacBook Pro and a FireFace 800 to see if you have any compatibility issues with the interface and the Mac's firewire chipset.

There are lots of threads around, including the RME forum, that says with some 2008 and early 2009 MBPs there are issues with the chipset and you need a workaround such as using a firewire repeater cable or a hub. I'm not sure if this is a problem limited to the FireFace 400 and the 800 or just the 400?

Can anyone please advise me from a 'hands-on' practical point of view?

Monty

None, zero, nada ... No compatibility issues found, so far ... Apple has gone the extra miles and then some to insure backward compatibility with all current and just about every legacy FireWire / 1394a / 1394b / iLink device.

There are several FireWire technical forums including Apple's own, and I can assure you that any compatibility issues that you might discover would not fall on deaf ears ...

It has been just about one year since RME updated the Apple OSX drivers and firmware for the FireFace devices. It always a good sign that 1) a company does update their drivers, etc. as needed and 2) that the current drivers and firmware have held up for more than a year. There is an RME Forum: http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/

Mercenary announcement: I operate http://firewirestuff.com and I would like to hear about any compatibility issues as well and I am intensely interested in professional audio so ... please email if you find any.

( I have a 3 month old 20" 2009 iMac, two brand new Mac Minis, plus older iBook and MacBook w/FireWire ports.)
