Have you all seen this beautiful machine? IT'S a fucking digital mixer/interface thru a FIREWIRE for ProTools OH YEAH! I'm about to throw this MBox in the trash, and I'm wondering if this 002 will be an awesome upgrade. It's pricey, but might be worth it.

We got one the first week it was shipping.
It's quite a wonderful piece of gear, and has
some nice additional surprises, like being able
to pump regular computer audio out through it
under MacOS 9 for use with any computer program,
not just ProTools.

Also, the fader control of plugins is a nice
concept, but I wish you could "re-order" the
sequence of the plugin parameters. For example,
the EQs have on/off, gain, freq, etc. per band
in that order. I'd rather have a page of gains, etc.

At least my sales rep didn't know if that could
be changed, as it would be probably controlled
by the plugin, and not by PT.

Anyway, no major issues yet at all and it's working
like a champ.

It is, however, much bigger than the pictures make
it seem. The stories of "putting it under my arm
and going to an off-site gig" seem a bit exaggerated --
or my arms are much smaller! biggrin.gif But, I like the
larger form factor for the studio anyway.

real freedom of choice is not an option with digidesign gear! wink.gif
ditto serious software,
god forbid i get reborn as a dodgydesign developement partner, i'd surely have to sell my soul to emagic/apple in order to get the job done!
don't believe the hype... huh.gif

Yes, you are locked into PT with the Digi.
I didn't mean to imply otherwise regarding
using it with other software - I meant just
for listening to audio only.

Plenty of opinions on Digi vs. not, but just
a positive review on the 002 from me.

I'd also be interested in hearing from other users
with their experience with the 002.

With the PT OS X version coming later for 002, I
wonder if that means all of the "free" plugins
that we got, whether they'll still work with
the new version. Hope so, but concerned. unsure.gif

You may find you have the same problems with the Digi002 as with the Mbox, and with any programme you use with any equipment, if you don't get the settings right. That can be an expensive game.

I'm not saying you didn't follow the "Getting Started" instructions scrupulously (and they aren't very comprehensive, nor quite comprehensible), but this may be the case. The only really important thing they forgot to say was to plug the Mbox in after your computer has finished booting. The help menu tells you all about PT5.1 including for TDM systems. That won't help as you have no idea what is relevant to 5.2 and to the Mbox. The Mbox and PT 5.2 is fine (wonderful) but the Mbox/5.2-specific instructions were ripped off in 5 minutes by somebody hoping you would think you were ripped off. I can see they've succeeded with you.

I saw it and touch it at the latest SATIS in Paris. It's a fine audio & control surface, but i was a bit disapointed by the faders quality (way behind the ProControl ones, just to compare) and the fact there is neither jog/shuttle, nor wordclock input, or "real meters".
But the system is very comprehensive, and offers quite a lot of goodies (standalone mode, meters around the panpot, MIDI, etc.).

Bye.
