I currently use Logic 7.2.1. When I open a new Logic file I often go to the "Audio"/"Loop browser" and drag in a drum loop to track to. I have the Apple "Jam Pack" Rhythm section plug in and I imagine that is where alot of the drum loops come from. But I think some come from Garage Band as well. Well anyhow the drum loop sounds clean, uneffected, and as if you were standing right there in the room where the drummer played.

If I close the file and start another one then go to the Loop Browser the drum loops now sound as if they were put through a "tape delay" or "hollow" effect. Keep in mind that I have no effects on this new file yet. The track that I drag the drum loop to is clean. Many times it is a new file I've just started and other times I'm opening an existing file but again I can find no "delay" settings on any tracks or the output or the inputs.

If I close Logic, the application, completely and then reopen it and then open a file the drums go back to being pristine and uneffected. This is similar to a transpose glitch I have where Midi instrument tracks come up transposed but when I close Logic and reboot the track is in tune again.

Any ideas?

depends on where the Apple loop originates from, any Apple loop or vitual instrument that is part of garage band, or a jam pack will also load a channel strip with effects applied, of course you can turn them off.

Thanks for trying to help but a friend I think figured it out. It seems the drum loops in Logic are recorded at a certain tempo. The times I heard that "echo" sound was when my song was at a much slower tempo. For example if the loop was at 125 BPM and my song was at 75 BPM then the resulting playback is affected. Apparently I need to match the tempo of my song to the loop's tempo to get pure sound.

The whole bit about me saying that it went away when Logic was closed and reopened was me being nuts. I probably just opened a file where the tempos were matched.

You can use the Apple Loop utility to turn the audio loop into an Apple loop then it will conform to the tempo set in Logic.

The loop utility was probably installed in the utilities folder when you installed Logic, if not you can download it from Apple, in the developers section. search on Apple loop SDK.

You might be noticing the loop browser is previewing in MONO. This is a well known problem all my friends have.

Just go into your autoload and find the audio object / channel strip that is used to preview Apple Loops. Click the switch on this channel strip to STEREO, and it should sound much better. Some loops don't fold down from stereo to mono very well. They have huge phase problems which can create that "hollow" sound you describe.

Cheers-
