I am working on a concept band. This band will utilize multiple midi controllers in a live performance situation. I have a Mac running OSX and two edirol um-880s (8 in 8 out midi interface) Unfortuneately, it seems as though most software only allows you to actually play one midi controller at a time. Is anyone aware of a software (or hardware) that would allow multiple midi controllers to be played simultaneously?(Differebt sounds).

Please help.

You can definitely do it in Logic Pro (and I assume Logic Express, though not sure of Logic Express's limitations).

It is easiest to do this by assigning the MIDI transmit channel for each controller keyboard to a different MIDI channel number. This can be done on the controller keyboard itself or in Logic's environment. The sounds/software synths that you want to play would be assigned to corresponding MIDI channels.

If you buy Logic I can go into more detail when you have it.

DP4! You can select the multirecord midi function, then assign a different midi controller to each midi track input. Then assign each midi track's output to whatever Reason device or au instrument you like. It seems like most midi sequencers would do this though.

Who makes DP4. I am trying to find it online. Also, do Logic Pro have a demo version? At $999.00, I would like to take it for a spin first.

Any decent sequencer will do

DP is Digital Performer from MOTU

The real limit is how much the MIDI chain can handle of MIDI data simultaneously (here interface+computer). As long as you have enough channels when appropriate, it should be possible without much pain. cool.gif
