What's the easiest way to connect my Powerbook running OSX3.9 to a Midi device? In this case the Fender GDEC Amp. Can I just use MIDI to USB cables without any other interface? And where can I get them in the US?

I prefer the MOTU fastlane. There are other interfaces as well. They can be purchaced at almost any reputable music store (like where you bought your amp). You can also get them online. Musicians Friend and Sweetwater are two good sites to go to. It is also a good way to check out the other available interfaces. These USB interfaces hook up to your mac, then from the midi interface you use MIDI cables to go between the interface and your amp. MIDI in to MIDI out, and MIDI out to MIDI in.

A friend of mine is looking at the GDEC. Looks like a pretty cool deal. Built in synth engine, looping, effects, portability, who could ask for anything more.
