I'm truly uncertain where to post this. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
I'm very interested in trying the Antares Avox software for both vocals and violin and would like to get any feedback from a user or tester. I would like to know whether I can use it with Garage Band 2 on my iBook G4 with 1.25Gs RAM. From what I've read about it in their ads it seems like a super app for my type of arrangements. |

Are Garage Band and Antares Avox Compatable? It would be the perfect (I think) app for the type of arrangements I'd like to do.
I'd like to hear from anyone who's had experience with this software, actual or beta test. I would be using it on an iBook g4 1.25Gs RAM, external hard drive available. Any help? |

Yeah, the AU version of AVOX is compatible with GarageBand.

I've tried the AVOX demo (Audio Unit) using Garageband 2 on my 1GHz G4 and it ran just fine.

You can use any AU (audio unit) plug-in with Garageband. All you do is download the plugin which will be a ".component" file. You put this file in /library/audio/plugins/components, then relaunch garageband if it's already open. If the plugin is a instrument, it will show up under the software instrument generator. If it's an FX it will show up in the effects area of the instrument settings.
There are a ton of plugins out there. THey all have demo versions to try out for free, but there are also a lot of kick ass free AU's. Some of the ones I use: Automat, Crystal, daHornet... (soft-synths) Multi-Delay, KTgranulater... (some of these sound better than the FX garageband came with) -------------------- BPM

Hey MIDImodesitt
Thanks a lot for the post. I went to daHornet and downloaded the AU file - then I pasted the .component file into the components folder, but then when I reopened Garageband I couldn't find the instrument. What I did was simply open a new track and search through basic synth, synth leads, all the synth options and found nothing. Is it under another name? Do I need to restart the Mac (I know I should have already tried this)? Do I have a version of Garageband that can't accept plugins? Ken |

Just pick any instrument, I usually go with the Grand Piano, and then down where the options are there is a popup menu that says "Generator." daHornet will be on that list, so long as you restarted Garageband after you put the AU in your components folder. After you select it, you can choose "save instrument" at the bottom (I saved it as WASP under synth basics ) so it will be in the instrument preset menu. -------------------- BPM
