I was having trouble with AU validation of a variety of plug-in with Logic Pro 7 and OSX 10.4.2. I managed to get some of them working (Guitar Rig was the main one), then lost others (Atmosphere, Trilogy). I decided to go back to OSX 10.4 with a clean install and now none of the external plug-ins are recognized by the AU Manager. The Logic plug-ins are recognized. How can I get Logic to see these plug-ins? They are still in the same folders, etc. Thanks

First of all, make sure you have the latest versions of your plugs. With both Logic 7 and the subsequent 7.1 release, a lot of plugs didn't validate anymore (because Apple removed a lot of 'shitty 3rd party au fix code' from the app). AFAIK only a very very few out of the around 700 availabe AU plugs wont work with 7.1 (around 3 I think) and none of the ones you mentioned should have problems if you use the latest versions. So go to the developers' sites and download new versions first.

Then, if Logic still fails to automatically validate the au's, go into the Logic menu inside of Logic and under the preferences entry, select Logic AU manager. If your plugs do appear in the list there but are greyed out, try clicking the ok box to the left of them and see if that helps. If they don't appear in the list, you prolly need to do a full rescan. Click the reset and rescan all button at the bottom of the window. And waaaaaaait! :-)

Thanks Flemming. The non-Logic plug-ins do not appear in the AU Manager window. I did try reset/rescan, but it still didn't pick up the plug-ins and put them in the list.

Weird. Try trashing the com.apple.AUValidation.plist preference file in user/library/preferences and the com.apple.LogicAudioUnits.plist cache in user/library/caches/logic and then reboot Logic. That should give you a full forced rescan.

Which specific plugs are you having problems with? Name, vendor, version?

Well, flemming. Talk about how a person can get goofed up with computers. I have 2 internal hard drives on my G5. One for apps and the system, and one for song files. When I did the 10.4.2 to 10.4 reinstall to try to fix my problem, I unknowingly reinstalled on the wrong hard drive (the one with the song files). It turns out to be a blessing in disguise, since I still have everything as it should be, with 10.4.2, on the app drive. I could not find the com.apple. AUValidation. plist pref file. I did trash the com.apple.logicaudiounits.plist file. I also deleted the system and associated files off the second drive - so it's back to the way it was. So, I'm back to the beginning. After a rescan, the only plug-ins that are not being recognized (and which crash the
AU Scan program are Atmosphere 1.2.1, Stylus 1.1.1, and Trilogy 1.2.1. Stylus RMX does scan and is validated. Perhaps I should try reinstalling these 3 programs.

You need Athmosphere 1.2.2. The others should work. Try deleting them and reinstalling and then do a full rescan in Logic's AU manager. Lemme know if that doesn't help. :-)

OK, flemming. I re-installed the AU updaters from Spectrasonics for Trilogy, Atmosphere, and Stylus (I had done this at lest twice before). Stylus loaded and is recognized by the Logic validation program. Trilogy and Atmosphere still crash the validation, however now they do show up on the plug-in drop down menu under an "incompatible" heading. I can run them fine even though it says incompatible. In the AU manager, they still are greyed-out and it says "crashed validation."

So, I can use everything. I'm going to get logic 7.1. Do you think this will be useful?

Oh! I thought yuo were on 10.4.2 and 7.1 already. Yeah, 7.1 is way better than 7.01 so I'd definitely go for that if I were you. I'm kinda confused about the two plugs that crash validation. That shouldn't be the case. Can you pm me the crash reports from the Logic AU Manager, then I'll have a look into it for you?!

Ah! Spectrasonics just posted Tiger updates for their AU plugs! Try those, mate! If they still fail, lemme know. I got the crash reports already, but see if the new AUs don't fix your probs, ok?

Hi flemming

I just downloaded the new AU Tiger updates from Spectrasonics and everything is working perfectly. They must have put them on in the last few hours since when I did it last night I got the 1.2.1 versions of Atmosphere and Trilogy. Whew! Thanks for your help! T
