I'm a new user (started with Logic 6 Big Box, an old Yamaha keyboard that I use as a MIDI controller and a Tascam US-122 interface) who decided to trade up to Logic Pro 7. First step was to upgrade to Panther. After doing so - I could not get any sound out of my old Logic 6 songs. I just get the error message with something about not being able to synchronize audi and MIDI tracks. It looks like Logic may not be communicating with my keyboard.

Somebody told me I need to update "the drivers." I tried updating the US-122 drivers, but still no sound. Logic seems to recognize the US-122 (it shows up in the audio preferences menu). Did Panther do something to my settings that I need to restore or do I need to reset something else. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I did not find anything about this using the search function. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have postponed my Logic Pro upgrade until I figure out what happened to my Logic 6 which was working just fine before Panther came along.

Go into applications > utilities > audio midi setup and change the preferences to your tascam again.
sounds like the install of panther changed them back to built-in audio.

happy recording,

Thanks for the quick reply. I did as you suggested and still no go. I did notice something called "IAC Driver" in the audio midi setup file - it was shadowed (not full color) - does that mean it's not functional? Is this perhaps the driver I need to update for it to work??

Also, I am not getting any MIDI signal from from keyboard (the little red MIDI IN light on my US-122 does not light up as it used to when I press the keys).

My keyboard is a Yamaha PSR-330. The exact error message is "Error while trying to synchronize audio and MIDI."

Thanks for any help you can provide - I really appreciate the warmth of the MAC community.

Regards,

I would suggest to backup you logic files and audio files to a disk (whatever kinda you have - dvd, external drive, etc)
then do a fresh reinstall of panther. seems the upgrade did something. I have had trouble when upgrading jaguar to panther before. i had to do a complete fresh install to clear things up.

One more update. I finally upgraded to Logic Pro 7 and everything seemed to work fine. I was able to produce sounds from my keyboard, etc.

Once I tried to record a software instrument, I got the same synchronization errror I had received in Logic 6. After this, I could not get sounds from my keyboard - no MIDI out signal.

I may need to adjust the buffer size or something, but I hate to start messing with things I am not really comfortable with. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe I should just call Apple Care and have them walk me through the set up? Have people had good experience with Apple's tech support?

Thanks for any advice/help.

Mac g4 laptop - 1 year old - 512 - 80 meg hard - Logic 6 (big box version) was working fine before I upgraded to Panther.

I'm hoping it some kind of easy tweak with the buffer or something...

I'm new to apple and was kind of surprised by the call I just had with tech support. I explained to the nice man on the phone that I had upgraded from logic 6 big box (which was working beautifully for a full year - lots of stuff recorded, etc.) to Logic Pro 7. First, I upgraded to panther ($100) and then upgraded to Logic Pro ($700). Now, I can't record sounds in Logic 7, Logic 6, Garageband or Reason.

When I complained that all I did was installed $800 of new software on a system that was working fine and now does nothing, he said - the warranty (and free tech support) only applies to the extent that the software LAUNCHES correctly. If it does that, Apple is off the hook...

I realize that Logic is a complicated program, but nowhere in the marketing stuff does it warn that an upgrade will render you system unworkable...

Then he told me, that if I sign up for Apple Care ($300?), he could really help me and get my system working again.

Am I just being ignorant or hard-headed, or does this seem like a case of supreme customer dissatisfaction?

Anyone know Steve Jobs' phone number? (hehe - joke there...)

Anyway, I am continuing to explore options (like connecting a new internal object to the muiti instrument in the midi environment - I read that on a post somewhere in these forums), but would be very interested in some words of perspective and support here.

I am a newbie and a hobbiest but my very positive experience with Logic 6 led me to believe that I could handle Logic 7 Pro.

Thanks again.

dgrotbo do you have an Audio MIDI panel set up correctly?
You should see a MIDI icon of Tascam and Yamaha PSR-330 in there.
If not try scanning it or set up a new one.

Where do I set up the Audio MIDI panel? In the environment window? Where exactly should I be seeing the icon.

To be honest, I don't remember doing this for Logic 6. I might have done it but I just forget (getting old, fuh, fuh...)

If you could give me a little more detail about how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I also noticed that i-tunes appears to not be working either - no sound or movement (it too had be set up to run sound to my monitors via the Tascam US-122). Reason also has problems - it doesn't seem to recognize the US-122. Maybe there is a problem with the US-122? I think I updated its drivers. Logic "sees" the US-122 but no sound.

Also, I do not think the keyboard is sending anything to the US-122 - the little red button that usually shows activity (when the keys are pressed) remains unlit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, the nice person at the Apple Store in Soho (NYC), upon hearing my problem, said, "Yeah, I understand that the company has been hearing a number of complaints like that. They're working on it."

Meanwhile my G4 laptop is functioning as an expensive paperweight...

Thanks for the replies
