Help!! huh.gif
Please can anyone give me the advice on the following;

I have a Power Mac G4 with OSX software with Pro Tools LE 6.4 and MBox.
The computer has been operating very slow so I cleared the trash.
Carried on working in Pro Tools, went to save the file and it came up as 'save as' even though the file already had a name. I saved it in one of the 3 folders that I save everything. As soon as I saved it it came up as 'pro tools has unexpectedly quit'
I then looked for the files in the folders and ALL Pro Tools files (current and previous) has gone.
Now when go through the harddrive to try and find these files it comes up with 'original folders can not be found'

I looked in the log book and this is what it says
'23.26 local/host/applictions/digidesign/protools/protoolsle6.4:usingFIXEDploicy

Please Help as I am desperate and spent all day recording tracks which I have now lost!

ouch!

there's Pro TOols LE for you...

i woud try first repairing your HD. Reboot holding Apple-S, and at the command prompt, type

fsck -y -f

and repeat until it says your disk is OK (but sometimes if something is really wrong it cant fix it)

then type

reboot

then if that doesnt work try recovering deleted files with techtool pro or norton or repairing with either of those or with diskwarrior. Thats all i can think of.

good luck!

Thanx for the help.
Rebooting didnt work the harddrive was ok.
I will download the techtools pro and see if that works.
If you have any other ideas please pass on.
Is this a common problem with pro tools then?

Sounds like you had some system files in your trash and they got deleted accidentally. Ive been using protools for years and never had anything like that happen.

Norton has an unerase function, either the OS9 or OSX version, Your G4 may boot into OS9 as well. This will be able to find a lot of erased files as usually just the pointer to the file is deleted, like an index in a book, thus making the drive space appear free, so a program can scan the whole drive and look for files which are not in the 'index'...but if you didn't name the audio track before recording you're going to be sifting through a whole bunch of files with similar names, also for edits, you'll have a whole bunch of segments. It could take days and you'll have to buy norton or use a friends. Also if you've been putting more files onto the disk then you may well be recording over 'erased' files...You may have to bite the bullet and re-do them all...The icon in the dock stays there even if the program has gone, it may have a ? in it...?

Norton is a big NO no for OS X. But if that's the only thing left to you, go for it. Norton's discontinued mac support and the OS X op system doesn't need to be defragged anymore so Norton's gone the way of the do-do from what I can tell.

Have you repaired permissions yet? Have you rebooted with your system disk (that came with your current OS X version)? You should also try these steps before using Norton on your disk. I don't think it will recognize OS X files anyway while you are in Classic…just a thought.

I've had some weird issues with ProTools LE and it's not that powerful a program, but another poster here had a great suggestion: Create a new user that you can log into that is ONLY for ProTools. It's a great, simplified workspace and I found my plug ins worked better that way.

Let us know your progress. smile.gif
