Question for the guys using their studios professionally.

Just wanted to know from you guys. Do you prefer having the input source going through the a/d converter at the sound card or before it?

For example. Do you have your mic pres going out to a standalone converter then coming into your sound card as adat or tdif? Or are you just going into the card as audio and letting the card do the work of converting the inputs?

I use the audio card AD converter (HD192) but if i had an apogee, i will go thru it first, of course.

I mean the answer is already in the question : if i had a better external converter i would use it. I would of course check with my ears first to be sure it is really better, then use use it in most cases.
