just updated to OS X and logic 5.5 , but i am having weird problems...
for one, I can only have 2 outputs for my 828.... there is no ASIO, its only Core audio, so i cant see the motu 828 driver.
Also, when playing my supernova 2 keyboard, it plays fine through the motu 828, but when I play an audio instrument like esx24, it comes out of the front tiny speaker of my 867 MDD g4! Weird...maybe someone can help me...
There is no ASIO in OS X it has been replaced by Core Audio.
Have you installed the Core Audio driver for your MOTU 828?
It is currently only a beta driver, download it from the mOTU website.
In Logic you need to select the MOTU 828 core audio driver in your "Audio Hardware and Drivers" window.
In the Audio layer of the environment make sure that all your audio objects are assigned to Core Audio (CoAu next to Dev).
ummm, read thereviews from the link you have provided....
MOTU sucks. These fools have got to get with the program and release those damn PCI 324 drivers. DP will be out later this year? That's 6 weeks folks. This company is hopeless. Bottom line: UNREAL

what a scam -- this is the same beta driver as before, only repackaged with a fancy 1.0 on it instead of a "beta". it still has no optical i/o and no console. LAME.

anyone know if MOTU will be developing a PCI-324 driver for X? DP and my 2408 are the only apps keeping me in 9.2.

Damn, it took you long enough MOTU to get these out, however I understand that OSX's audio support has been sketchy. I must say though, near flawless implementation, I just wish you would include the console, I need to be able to set the thru's on my 828. Keep the updates coming :-)
Iu still cant get logic 5.5 to pick up the motu 828 drivers.... I only still have that one option... Is there a specail folder where i have to install these dirvers to? When I install all it says is that it will be installed on my systems hard drive....
E rouge,
What version of OS X are you using? Are you installing the MOTU 828 "beta" driver from within OS X and not OS 9. I would think that the driver should be automatically installed in the correct location so don't change its default location.
If installed correctly you should see it in the "Audio Hardware and Drivers" window of logic in the pull down menu under Core Audio. What options can you see in this menu now?
well good news.... the 828 drivers showed up... now... weird....
but now they they show up... i cant get any sound out of logic when using my synth.... before when the motu 828 drivers didnt show up I could. i can however see my inputs 3-4 lighting up when i use my synth, but no output.... there isnt any control panel for the 828 iin OS X? My audio inserts work, just tried esx24 and it output through my 1=2 out puts, but not the synth....how come?
I am using 10.2.2 BTW
this interface is amazing...cant wait til motu gets some dribvers for X..
thanks in advance
Are the Audio Input objects in your track mixer (or audio layer of your environment) assigned to output 1-2?
Levon River, I really don't care what version MOTU calls their product and I don't know why you are so upset about this. I am only stating the facts from the website. I was only offering some assistance to a fellow musician and informing him about a driver for his interface.
Also you have no idea whether I have installed this software or not. I actually do a lot of work in music tech support and I have actually installed the latest driver from the MOTU website a number of times for various clients.
If you read the installer info when installing the driver it actually states that the driver is beta in the middle of the installation process. However maybe MOTU have it wrong, what would they know!?
Thanks for telling everyone six times that the driver is not beta, we are all better for it.
Like I said, I don't care about names of drivers, just as long as they work.
I am only here to help.
Please don't turn this into some sort of war over something so petty, I'm sorry I responded to the post in the first place.
please, you have gone away from the main topic..... I still need help.... anyways, the problem here is that the beta never had a control panel.... so unless your 1.0 from vision tracker has a control panel, its going to be hard to say that its not the same one from the motu site..... I would only download anything frm the motu site anyways..
E rouge,
Can you see your audio input objects in the track mixer in Logic or the Audio layer of the environment?
The mixer objects that represents input 3-4 should have activity on the meters when you play your keyboard. Is it assigned to output 1-2?
my problem is not with the audio inputs, its with my midi output... i see 3+4 lighting up on the front of my motu 828, but its not outputing out 1+2 , which is what use to output. my audio instruments work fine, just not the out put or my midi synth......
Did you monitor your outputs from your synth using CueMix before?
My suggestion is to send the outputs from your synth (input 3-4 on the 828) into logic and then out logic 1-2.
This way you have the advantage of being able to add logic's effects on your synth sounds. The only issue is that you will get a small amount of latency on your sound from the synth.
Please just try my suggestion. If your 3-4 inputs light up on your MOTU you should be able to get this signal into logic. It doesn't sound like a MIDI problem, seems to be a signal routing problem.
Can you let me know if you see signal on your audio input 3-4 in Logic.
formatj,
I cant see if I am getting signal in on my midi tracks in logic.... I know I am getting signal into the motu because the 3+4 input lights light up...
here is a run down of my set up
867 MDD
motu 828
inputs on motu are as follows -> 3+4 = supernova 2 synth, 5+6 = output of my rane 2016 mixer.
I only use 3+4 when on logic.
So I know I am getting input to 3+4 , just no output.....
On logic 5.5 on OS 9, I use to control panel to set the monitor for what evcer inputs I use, but since the motu 828 drivers are beta, there is no moto 828 control panel.... how the hell else am I going to set my outputs ???
1. Can you record some MIDI sequences with your supernova synth?
2. Do you see activity on the transport window when you play your synth, where it shows No In and No out?
3. If you record a MIDI sequence for your synth then play it back, do the lights on the MOTU 828 inputs 3-4 light up?
4. Do you have any audio Input objects in your audio layer of the environment, or in the Track Mixer of Logic?
5. If you do and you can record a MIDI sequence, which when played back lights up inputs 3-4 of your 828, can you see activity on the Audio Input Meters 3-4 of Logic.
please try all steps above and let me know which ones work and which ones if any don't make sense.
Ifixed it... I had to go to APPLICATIONS > AUDIOMIDI and choose the 828 inputs from there......thanks for all the help...
It's been wonderful following this thread, because I've encountered the same problems with the Motu OSX drivers and Logic 5.5
I *can* see activity on my Audio Input meters when I play my synth through the 828. The synth is plugged into inputs 3-4, and the lights on the 828 light up as well. The problem is I can't *hear* anything. I can record "blind", so to speak. I can even play back what I recorded. However, the problem is that I can't monitor what I'm recording.
Does there need to be some other object added to environment so that what is passing through the faders can be monitored on the 828's headphones or monitor outputs? (or even Output 1-2?)
Thanks for any help. I'm new to the forum.
Are your inputs assigned to output 1-2?
I think by default they are not assigned to an output when you create a new input object.
Just above the the pan and volume settings you can see the pop up box where output should be assigned.
Also in your "Audio Hardware and drivers" you need to have software monitoring enabled.
go to APPLICATIONS > AUDIOMIDI and choose the 828 inputs from there
You find these things inside your HD folder
E rouge,
Are you able to put Logic's effects on your supernova synth outputs via logic's audio input objects "live"?
format j
my supernova generates midi...... logic controls my supernova...
for me to use lgoics "live" inputs, I would have to record my midi to audio...if thats what you mean....
You can actually use logic's audio "input" objects to monitor audio from your synth and also to add effects "live" without having to record the audio signal from your supernova to disk.
Do you have any "Audio Input" objects (not audio "track" objects) in the audio layer of your environment, or in the Track Mixer of Logic (click on "Input" on your track mixer)?
If not, open the audio layer of your environment. Choose New>Audio Object. Double click on this object. In the parameter box on the left of the environment assign "Cha" to Input Stereo>Input 3-4.
Assign the output of "Input object 3-4" to "output 1-2" in the pop up box above meters and pan control.
In your "Audio Hardware and drivers" you need to have software monitoring enabled.
You should be able to then insert an effect on audio input 3-4 and hear it live.
This is what I was trying to explain to you before, just wondering whether you tried it.
I hope this makes sense.
yes it does, but I would rather add the effect later..
