I'm in the market for an affordable mic preamp. I would say between $200-$300. I use and M-Box to record, but the preamps are way to weak.
Anyone have some suggestions?
Thanks
I'm using a Presonus TubePre along with a M-Audio MobilePre and love them both. The Presonus TubePre is great with my condenser mic and gives my vocals and acoustic guitar a nice clean warm sound. Hope this helps.
I guess I should add that I am recording vocals and acoustic guitar with a condenser mic (B-1). I'm looking for something that will work in a rack and adds some warmth. I prefer tubes, but that may be way to expensive.
Beringher has a couple of pre's in the $100-200 range, but I don't know anyone that uses them. I've heard they are clean and cheap, but that's not enough to convince me to buy.
I'm also using a B-1 cond. mic with guitar and vocals. The Presonus TubePre will work in a rack. The Presonus gives a nice warm sound and is around $100.

Hope this helps.
RME quad mic is a good mic pre but you really need to go listen to them.
i good preamp will make mic sound alot better i think you might be better of saving a lil more up and spending it on a better mic pre amp like great river electronics. and just make do with the mic pre you have we run the mbox at my college it does the job i know it doesn't let you push it all that much. the rme quad mic is suppose to be good RME-audio.com go for a seperate pre amp for sure another one to look at is A Design Audio - Mic pres there more expensive but the thing is the ones that are cheap may not be as good as the mbox or worse .
i hope that helps ..
but i know its hard when you got a buget . music's so darn Xexy
If you know a little bit about electronics and soldering, I would recommend the http://nav.440network.com/out.php?mmsc=forums&url=http://www.paia.com/tubestuf.htm#tmp. I have had great luck with it for some applications.
