440 Forums _ Switch PC to Mac _ Making The Switch From Pc To Mac

Hi everyone. I have been considering switching over to Mac for audio work, starting out using Garageband. I've done some research on the net, but there is one thing that is nagging me. I have a custom drumkit in gigastudio format that I am absolutely in love with (I've worked on it for years, it's incredibly realistic). Is there any way to either convert this to a software instrument, or barring that, a way to create your own software instrument using the samples of each drum/cymbal in the kit? Or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and use the built-in kits or the percussion jampack? I know you can hook up the pc and mac and use the pc as a dedicated gigastudio machine, but that won't always be possible (transporting the mac from place to place). Thanks in advance for any info!

I think this is one of those situations of "where do you draw the line between consumer app and professional app".

I'm thinking that the kind of functionality you're looking for isn't even inthe pro apps yet. Most apps have just learned how to use reason natively. That's because reason is a wildly popular app. I don't know if gigastudio has the same user base demanding that it work natively inside DAW.

I wonder if logic let's you use giga natively.

You might wnat to check out http://nav.440network.com/out.php?mmsc=forums&url=http://www.chickensys.com/products/sw_iteminfo.php?sw_name=Translator+Pro, which will let you convert you Gigastudio samples into other sample formats.
Also there are samplers out there, that can import GigaStudio samples - Kontakt among others (correct me if I'm wrong).
Can you use Audio Units plug-ins in Garage Band? If so, you could use you samples with Kontakt or another sampler.

... but to answer your question:

No, you can't convert a samples into a software instrument.

Will have to use them in a sampler, like I said.

The EXS24 and EXSP24 ,included with Logic Pro, and Logic Express, can convert Gigastudio, and Akai formats into .exs.
